BOOX Note Air5C is now available through DSA – a new study tool for students

Great news for students who receive Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA): the BOOX Note Air5C is now DSA approved, meaning it can be recommended as part of your funded support package.

The BOOX Note Air5C is a colour e-paper device designed to support students who find standard laptops or tablets difficult to use. If bright screens, visual clutter, or constant notifications make it harder for you to focus, read, or take notes, this device offers a calmer, more comfortable alternative.

A calmer screen that is easier on your eyes

The Note Air5C has a 10.3-inch glare-free E Ink display that looks and feels much more like paper than a traditional screen. This can help if you experience:

  • eye strain or migraines
  • visual stress or light sensitivity
  • sensory overload
  • difficulty concentrating on backlit screens

Many students find that this type of display makes it easier to read for longer, stay focused, and engage with their work without feeling overwhelmed.

Designed for different learning needs

The BOOX Note Air5C can be especially useful for students whose studies are affected by:

  • ADHD
  • autism
  • dyslexia
  • difficulties with attention, organisation, processing information, or writing

Rather than adding distraction, the device is designed to support focus, structure, and accessible learning.

Flexible ways to study and take notes

With the Note Air5C, you can choose how you work best:

  • handwrite notes using a stylus
  • convert handwriting into typed text
  • annotate PDFs and lecture slides
  • record audio or voice notes
  • use text-to-speech to listen to your reading

This flexibility is helpful if you struggle with fast typing, spelling, note-taking in lectures, or keeping up under time pressure.

Works with your usual study tools

The device runs on Android, so you can use many familiar apps, including Microsoft 365, PDF readers, and cloud storage services. You can also connect a Bluetooth keyboard if you prefer typing longer assignments, while still benefiting from a more distraction-reduced screen.

Its long battery life means less worry about charging and fewer interruptions to your study day.

Keep everything in one place

The BOOX Note Air5C lets you store, organise, and annotate your notes and reading materials digitally. This can reduce the need to manage lots of paper and notebooks, making it easier to stay organised and work more independently.

Now available through DSA

Because the BOOX Note Air5C is now available through Disabled Students’ Allowance, it can be discussed during your DSA needs assessment as a possible piece of specialist equipment.

If you think a lower-stimulus, e-paper device could support your studies, you can mention the BOOX Note Air5C to your needs assessor.
